Last week, snow fell at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia. The sound of sleigh bells was heard in the air. Yes, in the August heat, even Santa Claus decided to cut his vacation short and make a special announcement. During the announcement, Jolly Old Saint Nicholas exclaimed, “November of next year, King’s Dominion is going to welcome me, Mrs. Claus, Jack Frost, the elves, and a whole bunch of special guests to be at the park. It’s going to be called WinterFest.” According to Gary Chadwick, Vice President and General Manager of Kings Dominion, “WinterFest is going to be amazing. It is going to have our very own ice skating rink on our water fountains. You will have snow every single night of WinterFest. We will have a dozen live shows. We will have cookie decorating, crafting, all of the characters. A lot of your favorite rides will be open so you will experience those in a whole new way. It’s a new family tradition that hopefully you will participate in and enjoy with us.”
To top it off, park officials announced that guests can experience WinterFest an unlimited number of visits with a 2018 gold season pass. Parent company, Cedar Fair, has tried out a holiday season at some of its other parks, and the reception has been significant. Adding WinterFest at Kings Dominion is the perfect fit and one that families and enthusiasts are sure to enjoy. While the park has yet to announce which of its bigger thrill attractions will be open [weather permitting] during WinterFest, the experience is sure to be one enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike should enjoy. Of course, we love seeing the operating calendar extended! With Busch Gardens Williamsburg down the street and being very successful with their Christmas holiday event, we are hoping that Kings Dominion really brings it to the park and is just as successful.
