The time has finally come for North America’s first launching wing coaster to open to the public. Holiday World opens to the public for its 2015 with a new, exciting attraction. Known in recent years for its great collection of wooden roller coasters and customer service, Holiday World announced the largest investment in park history last summer. The epicenter of this investment is Thunderbird! Launching from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds, Thunderbird gives park goers numerous elements, including its 140ft tall Immelmann loop, a 125ft tall vertical loop, and a B&M signature zero-g roll. With over 3,000ft of track, the roller coaster is filled with fun throughout the 1 minute, 18 second ride. Plus, thrill seekers will definitely want to experience this ride in various seats on the 20-seat train – front and back, left side and right side.
The $22 million investment looks to be quite the success! Early riders have noted how smooth and fun this wing coaster is. It’s hard to find a bad seat on this roller coaster, but most will point to the very front or very back rows when asked about which rows are the very best. When looking for comments about the new ride, it wasn’t difficult to find coaster enthusiasts with good things to say. One park goer, Tony, rode Thunderbird over 60 times during the media day event. After riding in each seat at least once, he noted that the ride doesn’t have a bad seat at all, but each row offers a unique experience – people wanting to experience the fly through more will want to sit on the outer seat of the left wing (side); those people wanting to experience more of the G roll will most likely prefer to sit in the outer seat of the right wing.
All in all, Holiday World now has a new, innovative hit that is certain to draw bigger crowds than ever before. Teamed up with its popular Voyage wooden roller coaster, the park is in for a great 2015 operating season. If you are anywhere near Santa Claus, Indiana, be sure to stop by and enjoy some amazing thrills on Thunderbird!
