It’s the BIG 5-0 at Six Flags Over Georgia – a worthy and well-deserved accomplishment that is rare in the amusement park industry. Opening on June 16, 1967, park officials could have only dreamed of the continued success and development that this Atlanta-area amusement park would see over the past five decades. As the park, its current and former employees, park guests, and enthusiasts around the globe pause to honor this momentous occasion, Six Flags Over Georgia and its parent company, Six Flags, have no plans to slow down nor rest on yesteryear’s successes.
Known for innovation within the regional amusement park industry, Six Flags Over Georgia continues to look for ways to enhance the park experience for guests. In 2014, for example, the park added a massive waterpark, Hurricane Harbor, and guests continue to enjoy the hot summer days on the waterpark’s thrilling water slides. In recent years, Six Flags Over Georgia has been the first in the country to offer virtual reality (VR) experiences on its popular roller coasters [Dare Devil Dive] and drop tower attractions [Acrophobia]. In 2017, Six Flags debuted its highly-innovative and thrilling family-friendly dark ride attraction, Justice League: Battle For Metropolis. Looking forward, there are no signs that Six Flags plans to stop improving the park experience for guests of all ages. “Six Flags Over Georgia holds a special place in the hearts of many park guests and team members,” said Six Flags Atlanta Properties Park President Dale Kaetzel. “While the definition of thrills has certainly changed over the years, Six Flags Over Georgia continues to deliver experiences that span generations and stand the test of time.”
Happy 50th Anniversary, Six Flags Over Georgia – job well done!
