Six Flags Magic Mountain, often known for its menacing thrill machines, unveiled its first-ever dark ride. Over the park’s 46-year history, numerous conversations about adding a dark ride were brought up, but the long wait for park guests ends on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. For years, the highly-competitive Los Angeles-area amusement market has seen various dark rides and highly-advanced, immersive attractions for visitors to enjoy. However, during that time, most visitors looked to the high-dollar Disney and Universal Studios properties to offer these while looking to the regional park leader, Six Flags, for the record-breaking roller coasters. Those days, however, are over! Through its partnership with world-class innovators like Sally Corporation, Oceaneering, Alterface, Pure Imagination, and others, Six Flags Magic Mountain now has a dark ride of every regional park’s envy. With Justice League: Battle For Metropolis, the park now looks to compete with the likes of Disneyland’s Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Disney California Adventure’s Toy Story Midway Mania, and Universal Studios Hollywood’s Transformers 3-D dark ride attractions. Furthermore, the innovative companies working on this project since its inception feel confident that it is on par with and even exceeds the two industry standards found most at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey!
“Of course, we had to up the ante for Six Flags Magic Mountain. JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle For Metropolis is their very first dark ride, and we had to make it special. Plus, they were competing with the other destination parks in the California area – a very high bar, and we were excited to reach it. Every version of the Justice League ride has been altered, even if slightly, for every park, but Six Flags Magic Mountain received the most enhanced version ever created, exclaims Lauren Wood Weaver, Sally Corporation’s Marketing Director. “We threw everything at it – massive 180 degree, toroidal projection screens with real time gaming, interactive projection mapping (first time ever in a dark ride), two exciting pre-shows that happen before you even get on the ride, all-new interactive characters and targets throughout, and of course… Harley Quinn has been added to the battle, along with a few additional animatronic characters. It gets me excited just talking about it! It’s an incredible dark ride that I can’t wait for the public to enjoy.” Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President, Bonnie Sherman Weber, adds, “It’s a game changer; I promise… there are more bells and whistles, more special effects. This is by far the best DC-branded product in the world!”
History of Innovation
Innovation is and has always been in Six Flags’ DNA, but this new 4D dark ride attraction takes it to a whole new level, competing with the very best that Disney and Universal have to offer! The highly-acclaimed park owner and operator, Six Flags, knew that a dark ride at its flagship location in Southern California was missing from its lineup of attractions, but throwing together just anything to fill that void would not suffice. With the success of the Justice League: Battle For Metropolis attractions at other Six Flags properties, there was an opportunity to integrate a world-class intellectual property like DC Comics and its characters with highly-advanced and highly-immersive technologies.
About Battle For Metropolis
Guests join the Justice League Reserve Team and embark on a journey to save the Justice League from The Joker, Lex Luthor, and Harley Quinn. This new addition is filled with new twists and turns. Guests will load onto ride vehicles in groups of six (two rows of three Reserve Team members) to battle the supervillains. For those who have battled Lex Luthor, The Joker, and his henchmen at other Six Flags Justice League: Battle For Metropolis attractions will immediately notice some differences and overall upgrades. For starters, guests load from the right side of the vehicle and depart the loading area to the right in a counter-clockwise direction. Throughout the immersive dark ride experience, park guests will accumulate points as they defeat the supervillains, free the Justice League, and save Metropolis. It is a ride for guests of all ages and one that is sure to compel guests to ride over and over again. Southern California’s popular regional amusement park has quite a winning attraction, one that should raise the bar to all-new heights. Only one thing remains, “Are you ready to shatter your expectations? And are you ready to Join The League?”
