As the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) celebrates 100 years and a relocation to the epicenter of the amusement universe [Orlando, Florida], the 2017 IAAPA Attractions Expo (IAE) opened its showroom floor to tens of thousands of professionals in the amusement industry. With well over 32,000 industry professionals, approximately 1,200 vendors, members of the press, and guests roaming around over nine miles of aisles on the tradeshow floor, the world’s largest amusement industry expo is the place to be each year. If the first day of the expo is any indication, the 2017 edition is one to attend. Welcome to the Creation Nation!
Touching IAAPA Kickoff Event!
The annual kickoff event is filled with a recap of the year in the industry, a look forward at the future developments in the industry, and recognition of those who have given so much to the industry. While all inductees in the 2017 Hall of Fame class are stellar and worthy of the top honor, it was heart-warming to see leaders from Give Kids The World, Henri and Pamela Landwirth, receive such recognition for their work within the industry to facilitate amazing memories for children who are struggling with life-threatening illnesses. Because of their work and the parks and industry leaders working closely with them, over 130,000 children facing terminal illnesses are able to “experience a cost-free, week-long dream vacation away from doctor visits and hospital stays.”
Jam-Packed IAE 2017 Press Schedule
Day one is always filled with ride, concept, and vehicle unveilings, and the first day of the 2017 IAAPA Attractions Expo was no different. Sesame Place, Silver Dollar City, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, and Six Flags Over Georgia took center stage as their parks unveiled new trains for upcoming roller coasters, Oscar’s Wacky Taxi, Time Traveler, Harley Quinn Spinsanity, and Twisted Cyclone, respectively. The crowds really came out for these unveilings in addition to the six other well-received press events.
Big Hitters at the Expo!
As technology and trends evolve, new companies and innovations arrive on the tradeshow floor. Some are in concept stage waiting for a buyer while others show off their latest and recent projects. Decision-makers from all throughout the industry come to the expo floor with some hopes and dreams, many with a multi-year plan needed to take their brand to the next level. For 2017, new innovations within virtual reality (VR), coaster design, and water attractions have taken a lead as the guest experience and expectations develop and evolve.
Three more days of wall-to-wall exploration and opportunities await expo attendees. Check back to Coaster Addict for additional coverage throughout the expo week and beyond!
