In only its second year of operation, Carowinds’ Fury 325 giga coaster outpaced longtime annual favorite and gold standard, Cedar Point’s Millennium Force, for coveted Best Steel Coaster honors at 2016 Golden Ticket Awards. For year’s the first-ever giga coaster, Millennium Force, has taken the Golden Ticket Award and been considered the standard by which all other steel coasters are measured. However, after the B&M-designed giga coaster was unveiled at Carowinds in spring of 2015, the debate among coaster enthusiasts began. With more and more park goers riding Fury 325 since it opened some 18 months ago, the race for top honors at this year’s Golden Ticket Awards tightened. Likely one of the most anticipated announcements at last week’s award show, Fury 325 pulled off the once-unthinkable feat. By a mere four votes, Fury 325 jumped three positions and topped Millennium Force. Essentially, that means that, had one voter left Fury 325 off his or her ballot, it would not have taken the title. All in all, it was an incredible race and is sure to be one that continues in the years to come. Is Fury 325 a better steel coaster than Millennium Force? Did the torch officially get passed from Cedar Point’s flagship attraction to Carowinds’ giga coaster? Time will tell!
