The process of building the world’s tallest and fastest Gigacoaster is quite an undertaking – simply, it is a GIGANTIC undertaking! After years of thought and planning, Carowinds announced and then began construction on the largest single investment in park history. The amount of hype and expectation for Fury 325 is growing by the day, but it appears the “Thrill Capital of the Southeast” has a big winner on its hands. With construction of the track completed in late January, the park and ride manufacturer, Bolliger and Mabillard, turn their attention to testing.
On Wednesday, March 4, 2015, the first test was dispatched. Train one climbed 325 feet into the North Carolina sky and raced down the track at approximately 95mph. The train took the path of a mad hornet – up and down, left and right. The 32-seat, water test dummy-filled train flew around the 6,602 feet of track; after much anticipation, the Fury 325 passed its first test. While there are a few more tests here and there between now and opening day, the park surpassed yet another monumental milestone. The park is slated to open this record-breaking roller coaster to the public on opening day, March 28, 2015! Until then, we’ll have to suffer through our #FuryFever… and keep tabs on the webcams!
