Disney executives and creatives unveiled a model of the Star Wars Land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, that they will be adding to both Walt Disney World (Hollywood Studios) and Disneyland. The popular company also announced that Star Wars Land would open at both US-based parks before D23 Expo in 2019. With much of the creative legwork apparently completed, the next 24 months should be interesting, especially since there has not been a lot of details announced about these themed areas. According to Disney Parks Blog, “guests will find themselves in the middle of the action at two signature attractions: one that lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
The question for many coaster enthusiasts, however, is whether or not a Star Wars-themed roller coaster will be built for these new lands. It is expected that some attractions will be relying on technology to bring Star Wars thrills and experience to fans, but is there a chance for a roller coaster? It is difficult to tell this early on, but it would be nice to see a steel thrill machine find its way into the plans. When most coaster enthusiasts think about Disney theme parks, most surrender to the fact that few coasters are found within these amazing parks. In many cases, it is a shame. With Star Wars being a HUGE intellectual property of Disney’s, it would be nice for both parks to integrate at least one roller coaster for teens and adults.
Part of the challenge of adding a coaster in the Star Wars Land areas at both parks will be finding a way to integrate it seamlessly into the themed buildings and scenery. However, it would seem unlikely that any roller coaster would be too tall. Having a tall steel coaster structure towering above the land would appear out of place. Let’s hope that Disney still finds a way to put one in there; maybe a nice Taron-like coaster would work!
