The highly-anticipated 2016 Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) Coasterthon at Six Flags Over Georgia was such a success. This was the fifth annual edition of the event, and, by selecting its tallest roller coaster, Goliath, as this year’s ride, Six Flags challenged participants more than ever. The 2016 charity event broke event records in participation and money raised. Forty-eight participating fundraisers secured a seat for the six-hour event on August 4, 2016 with 28 riders successfully surviving all 70 laps. In total, participants raised $23,323 for CHOA, nearly $7,000 more than the previous record amount raised. Among the many riders, Team Coaster Addict was represented very well, accounting for ten of the riders and raising $6,355.
The sun was out, and the rain stayed away long enough to get all six hours in for this coasterthon. In addition, the staff at Six Flags Over Georgia was fantastic as always. They were gracious and helpful in every way; this event could not take place with all that they do. CHOA Event Coordination Team continues to make this event a fun and exciting challenge for coaster enthusiasts. The team notes, “Children’s is appreciative of the partnership with Six Flags. Six Flags donated VIP Tour of the park, 2 Flash pass tickets, 34 tickets to return back to the park, 20 white water tickets, and food for riders (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Because of this, 100% of the funds donated were able to come directly to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.”
The news media and regional celebrities came out to support the event as well. In fact, reigning Miss Georgia 2016, Patricia Ford, came out and took in a few laps for the riders. Her support and the support of the entire community is greatly appreciated.
Team Coaster Addict really appreciates all of the support through this event. While the challenges during this coasterthon were many, the challenges endured by the children seeking treatment at CHOA are so much greater; being able to participate in a fun event like this for such a great cause is such a great privilege. Special thanks to Ted’s Montana Grill [Avenue West Cobb location] and Kylie Szymanski [aka Penny Blake, the Governor’s daughter on The Walking Dead] for their continued support throughout the lead-up to this event.
