Romantic, enchanting, and tender/loving are not generally terms one would associate with “The Roller Coaster Capital of the World,” Cedar Point. One would be more likely to think thrilling, intimidating, or exhilarating when walking among the cloud hugging steel behemoths created by Intamin, B&M, and Arrow Dynamics. But, should this always be the case? Is Cedar Point (or any other major amusement park) perhaps the ideal first date destination that you just never thought about, until now of course? Granted, amusement parks have always been an excellent date idea, but I want to focus more on the idea of a first date here because, generally speaking, those type of dates are the most difficult.
Communicate in the Queue Lines!
So, what is perhaps the most important aspect to a first date? Most would say communication and taking advantage of the time to get to know each other. Well, what trip to Cedar Point is without waiting in lines, sometimes very long lines? [Unless you buy Fast Lane Plus!] While this is often looked at as a nonsense for most park goers, this may be seen a welcomed opportunity on a first date. While waiting 45 mins for Maverick, take the opportunity to chat with your date! You have been given a golden opportunity to communicate to help pass the time in line. But, do not let the ride end the conversation, after laughing at each other’s ride photo, walk straight into Frontier Inn, share a basket of chicken fingers, and talk more about how awesome, terrifying, or exciting Maverick just was. I can safely say that, by the end of the day and standing in at least 7 or 8 lines, you will find that you know a lot more about each other than you did before.
Cedar Point – a Romantic Getaway?
The next subject to consider is romance. Of course, everyone is very different, but most would agree that a first date may need to be romantic or at least have romantic elements. Cedar Point can provide you with more than your fair share of romantic moments. First, there is the obvious choice, The Giant Wheel aka the Ferris Wheel. It is probably the most romantic ride already, but add in the fact that it is situated next to the beautiful Lake Erie and Cedar Point beachfront with additional breathtaking views of the park, especially a night, and you find quite an intimate first moment. When it is your turn to stop at the top, what better opportunity is there to get that memorable first kiss or simply your first cuddle?
Speaking of the beach, Cedar Point provides a mile of sandy beachfront that is sure to add some romance to your date. Taking a stroll on the beach, watching the waves roll in, and sitting together in the sand creates a quiet and romantic escape from the thrill factory behind you. If sand is not your preference, try taking a walk through the Frontier Trail section of the park during the evening. The lights throughout the trail create a quiet and peaceful opportunity to hold hands and take in the sights around; the tunnel also provides a chance to hold your date close and enjoy the relaxing mood (just be prepared for Millennium Force to roar overhead a few times – haha; for some, that is the icing on the cake).
Take in a Show at Cedar Point!
Finally, Cedar Point does not always have to be about the rides (we will get to those next though). When asking for first date suggestions, many people may suggest going to the theater or seeing a live show. Well, Cedar Point has a little bit of everything in the show department. In the mood for some comedy? Enjoy Lusty Lil’s Western Revue in Frontier Town. Want to enjoy the soothe harmonies of some of your favorite tracks from your favorite movies? If so, the new-for-2017 Lights, Camera, Action show is a perfect choice! If you are in the mood for dancing, lights, and fireworks, Luminosity is perfect to wrap up an evening at Cedar Point. No matter what you choose, the shows provide time to sit close to your date and enjoy some great live entertainment that will surely provoke more conversation as you decide what was your favorite song or favorite part.
Conquer a Coaster Together!
So, I know what some of you may be thinking, what about the rides? As I promised, that is where this discussion goes next. Cedar Point sure has its scenic opportunities, but let’s face it – you go to Cedar Point to ride the rides, the coasters in particular. Well, luckily those provide for some fantastic first date memories and moments too. Yes, a 310ft blue beast that takes you about 93 mph is not what you would classify as a typical romantic experience. But, let’s think about this a little more closely. What better opportunity to prove you can provide safety and comfort than holding your date closer as you approach the increasingly intimidating ride station? You allow them to squeeze you tight as you approach the air gates, you speak confidently ensuring them it will be okay, and you will be there to help them the whole time. Finally, you are in your seats and begin the ascend up the lift hill as you hold your dates hand to provide that extra comfort. When you finish the high-speed experience, your date either bear hugs you in excitement and joy for conquering the giant ride, or in relief that it is over. Either way, it is a WINNING opportunity!
So, rest assured, fellow coaster addicts – I know dating can be tough, especially for a coaster or amusement park enthusiast. Everyone is not going to have the same love and affection we have for these super thrill rides and mega coasters of the world, but that does not mean our passion has to make it more difficult. In fact, we may very well have one of the best places to go when a first date opportunity presents itself. The county fair has long been considered the ideal date location; it is hard to watch some romantic comedy or teenage drama television series where they do not attend a fair at least once. Well, Cedar Point is just the biggest and fastest fair you can go to! Take advantage of our passion and share it with the people we want to be a part of our lives. First dates can be difficult, uncomfortable, and stressful; so, what better place to feel confident on a first date than your happy place surrounded by the rides you love?
