Probably the most anticipated new roller coaster this year happens to be opening in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area – Fury 325. At the end of March, Carowinds will open for its 42nd operating season. During the end of the 2014 season and throughout the off-season, the park has continued its second year of a multi-year, $50+ million expansion, and this season will be unlike any other before it. For 2015, the park has a new toll entrance plaza, additional parking spots, a brand new main entrance, and the world’s tallest, fastest, and longest gigacoaster.
With the fanfare at an all-time high, the park is using this great opportunity to give back to the community. One of the major ways that it is doing so to kick off the season is through a first rider auction. The 96 seats on the three trains of Fury 325 will be up for bid to raise money and awareness children in the region through the Cam Newton Foundation (CNF). This partnership will provide eager coaster enthusiasts like you the opportunity to ride this magnificent new roller coaster before the rest of the general public and do so for an amazing cause.
The mission of the Cam Newton Foundation is to enhance “the lives of young people by addressing their socioeconomic, educational, physical and emotional needs.”
How It Works!
So, you are interested in participating – riding this GIGAntic coaster for a great cause, huh? Well, the bidding process is quite simple. First, you need to go to the auction page and register so you can start the bidding process. Second, you need to determine which seat(s) you want to bid on. You can scroll through the various seats, check the current bid amount, and make a higher bid. Of course, you may want to make a higher bid. The system will take bids in $10 increments. For example, if the current bid is $100, you can bid $110, but the current winning bidder might have set his or her high bid at $110. In that case, the system will increase the bid to $110 but keep him or her as the high bidder since he/she had entered in that $110 max bid before anybody else. Of course, you could then increase your bid to $200 if you liked. In that case, you may overtake the current high bidder and possibly win the seat. Third, you should watch your email. If you are outbid at any time, you will receive a notification via email.
Bids will be accepted up until 11:59p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2015. When the bidding closes, the top bidders on each of the 96 seats will receive an email about additional details for the first rider auction. You will secure your seat with payment in the amount of your winning bid, and you will be invited to the March 25th media day event where that first ride will take place. Carowinds is giving 100% of the proceeds to the foundation, so this is a great opportunity to have fun and give back all at the same time. More event details can be found on the auction site.
So, the only thing left to do is to sign up! What are you waiting for?
