What do you do when you’re Cedar Point or Holovis and have an award-winning augmented reality (AR) app? You upgrade it and make the experience EVEN BETTER! In its second season at America’s Roller Coast, the Holovis-designed Battle For Cedar Point AR gaming experience received an update in time for the summer. In 2016, the award-winning battle game was well received at Cedar Fair’s flagship property. After launching an upgraded version at sister park, Kings Dominion earlier in the 2017 operating season, the Cedar Point version got the highly-anticipated updates.
What’s New in Battle For Cedar Point?
When two great organizations work together on a project, great stuff is bound to happen. In this case, Cedar Point and Holovis took guest feedback from last year’s AR experience and looked to make it even better! While we cannot confirm every aspect of what is new, there are obvious upgrades that allow for added functionality and more park-inspired rewards. During discussions with Peter Cliff, Holovis’ Creative Director, during the 2016 IAAPA Attractions Expo in Orlando, Florida, it was brought up that this next generation version of the game would allow endless opportunities for the park to engage the guests playing the game during the day. Also, it appears that the coaster clan characters are back and better than ever. There are five Coaster Clans – Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Maverick, GateKeeper, and Valravn; Guests wanting to Battle For Cedar Point will select their alliance to one clan per visit to the park (once the coaster clan has been selected for the day, it cannot be changed until the next operating day).
Conquer Rides to Earn Rewards
Guests can gain rewards by logging the rides that they enjoy during their visit. This allows them to gain energy to battle it out in the game, and it enables them to be promoted quicker to the next level. Cedar Point has plenty of rides to log during the visit to the park, so there are many ways to gain an edge in this AR game; however, unlike at sister park, Kings Dominion, the waterparks’ attractions are not currently in the game to be logged. This is likely because Cedar Point Shores is outside of the main park and not included with basic park admission; Kings Dominion’s Soak City can be accessed from the park and is included with park admission. As a result, there is no need to attempt to log those water attractions over in Cedar Point Shores.
If you are visiting America’s Roller Coast, be sure to download the Battle For Cedar Point mobile app and battle it out with your friends and family. Will your favorite coaster clan reign supreme?
