With Cedar Fair parks announcing their various new attractions for 2018, each of the parks is now selling its 2018 season pass options. Whether guests want a gold or a platinum pass, many of the usual all-season add-ons like Dining, FunPix, and Fast Lane Plus are also already available. While the price of the All-Season FunPix is approximately the same as it was at the beginning of 2017, the initial prices for All-Season Fast Lane Plus appear to be on the rise. For coaster addicts who frequent these Cedar Fair parks (especially on weekends), the increased price is still quite a bargain and is honestly cheaper than the price of a similar all-season quick queue pass at a similar-sized Six Flags park. However, the prices are going up. While Cedar Fair officials have not directly commented on the matter, it is obvious that many of the park’s 2017 prices for this new all-season add-on were much lower than the demand, thereby selling out their batch of passes in record times – Carowinds (100% price increase) and Kings Dominion ($110 price increase) are two great examples of this (and is one reason why their prices increased the greatest percentage over this year’s price). Another reason is that these 2018 add-ons are already on sale, so there is more time to sell them and less of a need to lower the price before the season arrives. For the most popular parks in the chain, this increased price will still bring great value to guests who love the Fast Lane Plus quick queue program; in a few cases, it appears that these add-on passes could be under priced.

Payment Plans to the Rescue!
Like in previous years, guests can even spread out their purchase through a payment plan. Those who purchase or renew a pass yet this year will be able to spread it out over up to nine months. This is great news for those looking to renew early and for those buying multiple passes (i.e. for families). The key to this, however, is that guests need to purchase these add-ons along with the season pass [online] at the same time in order to bundle them all into the six or nine-month payment plans. One downside is that some enthusiasts who do not renew their season passes early in the fall could be locked out of these options since it is highly likely that parks like Carowinds, Kings Island, Kings Dominion, and Canada’s Wonderland will surely sell out of these limited season pass add-ons sometime in the fall.
There are a few issues left unknown. First is about Cedar Point. Now that the larger Cedar Fair parks are offering this pass for 2018, only Cedar Point’s website remains without the option as of the time of publication. Might Cedar Point add it for 2018, or will it be the only park in the chain without that option? If they do offer it for 2018, will it be $499 or somehow much higher? The second unknown issue is whether Cedar Fair is considering a chain-wide version of the Fast Lane Plus season pass add-on for 2018 or into the future. This seems less likely, but coaster addicts like us would definitely consider it if it was offered. Lastly, will Cedar Fair allow guests to use the payment plan for the add-on by itself. This really becomes the issue when guests want to buy a second All-Season Fast Lane Plus for their next favorite Cedar Fair park. A great example is a platinum passholder who renews at Carowinds but wants to also buy the same thing for Kings Dominion. Since that passholder cannot purchase the pass for Kings Dominion on the Carowinds website, it appears that he or she could bundle the first Fast Lane Plus but have to pay for the other outright after the first is processed!
Overall, it is interesting to see how this offering will take shape as the 2018 season nears. Are you planning to grab an All-Season Fast Lane Plus pass?
