Well, there has been a lot of excitement brewing at Six Flags Over Texas. Everyone is eager to find out exactly what the park will be adding in 2015. Six Flags has been teasing all of us enthusiasts over the past month now, and it’s driving us crazy! I’m very excited to share my ideas and the 2015 prediction for SFOT with Coaster Addict today!
Roaring Rapids Temporarily Closed?
Early this summer, SFOT closed one of their most popular water attractions, Roaring Rapids. The summers in Texas can be brutal, so everyone is always looking for a way to cool off a bit. The Rapids is a 12-person tube that takes guests through one wild river adventure ride. You’re sure to get soaked on the ride. So, you could understand everyone’s concern for why the ride was down in the heat of the summer. It just didn’t make sense, until shortly after.
The first clue released by the park was a wooden sign that was propped at the entrance, and exit of Roaring Rapids, that read: “Roaring Rapids will be temporarily closed so we can bring you a spectacular new attraction in 2015.” This started all the hype. Many people began speculating by saying Rapids was on its way out, or that they’re revamping the attraction. When I saw the sign for the first time, I decided I wanted to go to the top of the Oil Derrick Observation Tower located right by the Rapids. I was hoping to get a better view of the ride and surrounding area.
View From Above!
The Oil Derrick is the park’s 300 foot tall observation tower where you can get spectacular views of the park, nearby Dallas, and Fort Worth, TX. As soon as I made it to the top of the tower, I noticed something right away. Directly behind the park’s now defunct Adventure Theater attraction, and in the Roaring Rapids holding pond, several pieces of construction wood, tractors, and piles of dirt stood. I knew immediately that whatever was going on back there had to do with their 2015 attraction. Once I brought light of this to our coaster organization, Texas Thrill Seekers (TTS), the speculation began.
Many people were continuing to state that the Rapids were out, and that the park is building a new coaster that will cover the ride’s footprint. Others said they believe that the park is remodeling their Adventure Theater and will reopen it with new technology. Of course, it was all speculation, none of which was ever confirmed by Six Flags. I, however, never believed that the Rapids were leaving or that Adventure Theater was being remodeled. I still don’t believe that.
Justice League Dark Ride?
Over the next several weeks I (as well as many other TTS members) monitored the area behind the theater. It was fun to watch as construction continued to progress. It wasn’t until recently that the hype once again went into full force. Why? It was first reported by one of our members that they heard an ad over the parks PA system that said something to the effect of a new “Justice League interactive dark ride coming in 2015.” I was already leaning in the direction of a new interactive dark ride. However, I had no idea what it might have been themed to.
And, of course, this [again] generated a lot of excitement within our organization. But wait! A strange twist to this story would emerge shortly after. A different TTS member would later report that he overheard the park advertising extreme Roaring Rapids for 2015. What? This blew a lot of our minds. It still has me wondering. I’m almost certain that the Adventure Theater and construction site behind it will become one giant dark ride for 2015. But, could we really see extreme Roaring Rapids as well? Two major attractions in one year? Or is the park teasing us again? All of our questions will be answered [this] Thursday, August 28! Until then, we’re going to have to bite our fingernails a little bit longer.
