With announcement season upon us, excitement continues to build as the teasers and speculation continues to grow. Over the past few months, park enthusiasts have learned that 2018 should be quite the amazing year for new thrilling attractions. With so many new roller coasters expected to be announced, there’s a lot to look forward to. While there is an abundance of announcements to keep an eye out for, here are five announcements coaster addicts should definitely be excited about.
Mean Streak was closed in the fall of 2016, and speculation began right away. Was Mean Streak finally going to get the Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) treatment? For years, RMC projects have succeeded at various regional parks like Six Flags properties, Kentucky Kingdom, and Dollywood. RMC Mean Streak, however, looks to continue Cedar Point’s push to break records and bring massive coaster experiences to its guests. Which records might this break? Will it become the best RMC coaster in the world when it opens in 2018? Don’t miss this announcement!
Another Cedar Fair park appears to be getting an RMC treatment. When its Hurler roller coaster shut down for the 2016 season, guests wondered what was coming. It has been a number of years since the park installed a new roller coaster. However, the park recently confirmed that it will be making its announcement on August 16, 2017 [National Roller Coaster Day], and noted how this is the BIGGEST announcement in its history. Surely, there are great things to come at Kings Dominion for 2018!
Six Flags Over Georgia
Another park that has not gotten a new roller coaster in a number of years is Six Flags Over Georgia. Located just outside Atlanta, this Six Flags park is one of the best in the chain. Often underrated by many, this Six Flags has a little bit of everything to offer its guests. However, the park made a surprise announcement in mid-July that it was closing its iconic wooden roller coaster, Georgia Cyclone, down for good on July 30, 2017. All signs point towards an original RMC remake of the Georgia Cyclone or brand new coaster. Some think the park might add an S&S 4D Free Fly coaster similar to those recently added at other Six Flags parks like Six Flags New England or Six Flags Great Adventure. An announcement is sure to take place at the very end of August!
Silver Dollar City
Branson’s premier park, Silver Dollar City, has been working on a significant project for 2018. Earlier this spring, the park confirmed that this is the single biggest thing that the park has ever built. While the park has not confirmed that this is truly a roller coaster project, it is known that the park will be making this major announcement on National Roller Coaster Day, so, if there was ever any question about the ride, most now are certain that it is a roller coaster. While August 16th appears to be quite a busy announcement day this year, enthusiasts will not want to miss out on the news coming out of Branson!
California’s Great America
Cedar Fair has been working with local officials and community leaders to ensure that California’s Great America is better than ever. Earlier this year, it unveiled more of its vision behind its projected 20 year master plan, and the expectation of bigger and more thrilling attractions definitely appear to be in the cards. Earlier this summer, the park began teasing out a few things in the lead up to the 2018 announcement, and all signs point towards a new roller coaster. Enthusiasts love a new coaster credit, and most are hopeful for a big thrill machine. Details have yet to be announced, but the park has indicated that it plans to get to unwrap all of the ride details during its announcement on… wait for it… National Roller Coaster Day! Surely, this will add yet another great reason to be attentive on August 16, 2017!
With 2018 looking to be quite the coaster class (possibly the best in over one decade), coaster enthusiasts are certain to have even more reasons to hit the parks in 2018. Be sure to check back here for all of the details from these exciting 2018 ride announcements!
