You spend a few weekends each year going to ride roller coasters at some solid theme parks throughout the country or world. You have a fantastic time each time you visit these theme parks, so what is the big fuss about being a coaster club member? Here are four very quick and easy reasons to join a coaster club today.
Exclusive Park Events
First and foremost, most people who love roller coasters and theme parks would love to have some exclusive ride opportunities at theme parks. Often, one of the main perks of a coaster club and possibly the top reason why people join coaster clubs is get some exclusive access. Now, each club has different events, and each park hosting these events will have different opportunities at these events – essentially, every situation and event is different. With that said, coaster club team up with theme parks and offer these special events. For a nominal fee, club members can experience things at the park that other guests just do not get to do. Club members will often get exclusive ride time on some of the biggest and baddest roller coasters around. At many events, club members will enter the park for the event before the general public and often leave the park after the park closes to the general public, so members really get their money’s worth.
In addition to exclusive ride times (ERT), club events will often provide a lunch or snack and sometimes more exclusive interaction with park leadership. Some events offer Q&A sessions with these park officials. During other events, park leadership might walk club members through areas that are typically off-limits to park guests. These behind-the-scenes opportunities are always loads of fun.
Special Park Discounts
When you join a coaster club, there are often chances that club members will get some sort of special deals and / or discounts. These discounts vary from club to club and from park to park, and not all parks offer them. Sometimes, parks will offer club members a discounted rate to get in. Also, some coaster clubs get group travel and affiliate codes that provide better rates for rental cars, hotel stays, and even other attractions not found inside of a major theme park. These discounts are provided because the coaster club represents a large number of enthusiasts, and, like in the cases of volume discounts, discounted opportunities arise.
Learn About the Industry
Whether a club member is new to the theme park world or has been around for a number of years or decades, joining a club often helps club members keep in the know about the happenings around the industry and within the club. Some clubs have newsletters and / or magazines that provide greater insight into what is new and exciting at the parks and what new trends are out there. Keep in mind that opportunities to attend those exclusive events, mentioned above, also provide opportunities for people to learn about the industry and what is going on. Often, people who have been club members for many, many years can provide great historical information and even some thoughts about the present day experiences of the industry. In addition, those chances to talk and walk with the park leadership during the events often provide great chances to learn about the industry as well. There’s so much knowledge out there, and being part of a respectable coaster club often provides chances to learn so much!
Make New Coaster Friends
While having exclusive events with ERT and taking advantage of discounts or industry knowledge is fun, often the best things about joining a coaster club start and end with the interactions with like-minded people. In the beginning, people may join to get into some special events, but those people typically end up realizing that the best part of the being a club member is that group of people they’ve met while in the club.
Sometimes, our longtime friends from childhood or even family members might not really love roller coasters or theme parks. They might not share that same passion. People who belong to coaster clubs, however, certainly do. Those bonds form, and those new friends end up becoming like family. Many club events are repeated at various parks each year, and club members will often attend them each year to hang out with those friends from the club. The coasters might bring the people together, but the bonds formed among club members keep them coming back to the coaster events. It’s something quite spectacular!
So, there they are – four straight-forward reasons to join a coaster club. Clubs like American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE), Coaster Crew, European Coaster Club (ECC), Great Ohio Coaster Club, and Club TPR are some of the more popular clubs out there, but note that this list of clubs is far from complete.
