Do you love roller coasters… too much? Are you a true addict? Do you have a problem when it comes to awesome theme parks and amazing roller coasters? There are certainly worse hobbies to be addicted to! We absolutely love the great thrills that roller coasters bring us, and we just cannot get enough of them! Still… sometimes, it is hard to determine that, but we’ve come up with ten sure-tell signs that you are a coaster addict.
You Base Your Vacations on Where Coaster Parks Are Located.
So, your friends and family want to go on a vacation to some city that you’ve never been to? Well, not so fast! You immediately go to RCDB and Coast2Coaster.com to figure out if there are any good roller coasters in the area. Heck, any coaster will due – Vekoma SLC or Boomerangs are definitely welcomed! That coaster count is important, so the family needs to be sure that they do not constantly go to the same parts of the country; coaster addicts hope for different vacation spots that are close to theme parks. Planning normally begins with what coaster count milestone is approaching. It’s all about the priorities!
You Have More Season Passes in Your Wallet Than You Have Credit Cards.
Each year, you renew all of the theme park season passes and figure out if you need any new ones along the way. To remain prepared at all times, you look to organize these season passes in your wallet; you never know when you might be near your favorite theme parks that you frequent so often. As you organize that wallet, you realize that you have more theme park season passes than you do credit and debit cards. If you notice this when you open your wallet, consider yourself hooked on coasters!
All of the Ride Ops Recognize You & Know You by Name.
Tens of thousands of people pour into theme parks each and every day. These parks have a lot of employees, and these employees do not work each and every hour a theme park is open – most theme parks are open at least ten hours per operating day. So, these theme park employees see so many different faces, and these employees are often rather busy for their entire shift. However, you go to your favorite theme parks more often than most, and you ride all of the roller coasters. In fact, you find that many of the ride ops recognize you. Heck, most seem to know your name and where you’re from. If this is you, you’re definitely addicted to roller coasters!
More Than Half of Your Friends Are People You Met at Coaster Events.
Being hooked on roller coasters is more than just riding the roller coasters. Often, you find yourself spending a lot of time in lines or at least visiting the parks a lot. If you are like us, you attend a good number of coaster events (whether it is a coaster club event or an event directly organized and hosted by the park). One day, you are logged into Facebook and start skimming through your friends list. Of those who are your true friends and/or acquaintances, you realize that more than half of them were originally people you met while attending one of these awesome roller coaster events. Have you noticed this? Well, just accept that you are likely a coaster addict!
There are More Coaster Shirts in Your Closet Than Anything Else.
You ride some roller coasters, and then you grab a t-shirt or two to help you remember that coaster trip or ride experience. Over time and as you visit more theme parks, you have accumulated a significant number of shirts. You’ve invested a good chunk of change buying these cool shirts, and you notice all of them either hanging up in your closet or folded nicely in a dresser drawer. When you have a spare second, you count up those shirts similar to how you keep a tally of the number of coasters that you’ve been on. When you look at the rest of the closet, you realize that you have WAY more coaster and theme park shirts than anything else in that closet or drawer. It’s okay – shirts are cool; you’re likely a coaster addict, and you should be proud of it. Now, which shirt do I wear to that park I’ve never been to before? Do I wear a competitor’s shirt to see if I will get better customer service, or do I pick a shirt from a far-away theme park that will showcase my roller coaster experience? So many decisions!
You Always Keep Your Souvenir Cups in the Car Just in Case.
Sure, you may have your season passes ready in your purse or wallet just in case, or you at least have them loaded into the park’s mobile app for convenience, but what you know that you get thirsty at theme parks, and you can’t stand paying full price for a refreshing soft drink. No, you’re always prepared, and one way you do that is to have your theme park souvenir cups on standby in your trunk. Hey, you never know when you might decide to swing by the park for some coaster riding and fun with friends!
You’ve Been Watching Coaster POVs on YouTube for the Past Few Hours.
Time flies when you are scoping out that “coaster porn” on YouTube. Sure, you know it is not as good as the real thing, but sometimes you just need a fix. You might have looked up one roller coaster point-of-view (POV) video on YouTube – you know… for research purposes, but that darn site keeps recommending other POVs to watch. What was supposed to be a quick investment of five minutes has now turned into hours, and you have to be up in four hours to go to work. Damnit – you’re addicted. Don’t be ashamed; acceptance is the key!
You Scan Your Area “Thumbs Up” Before Putting Vehicle in Drive.
It’s not just about looking left and right before you start the car to depart. No! After buckling up, it’s time to “Take 5” and “Scan your areas” before it is “All Clear” to drive! You scan from left to right and back to the left again and place that thumb up in the area before you exclaim, “ALL CLEAR!” With everything in order, you dispatch your car or truck and head towards your destination… likely to a nearby theme park. If you put those thumbs high up in the air before departing in your vehicle, you’re definitely addicted.
You Run Out of Ride Photo Pose Ideas
Many people love to check out their ride photos, but you ride these coasters all of the time. Likely, you have one of those unlimited photo passes that many of the parks offer these days. Of course, you know where all of these ride photo cameras are placed, and you do your best to inform those in the GP who are sitting in the rows close to you. But, you ride so often that you start to run out of cool and creative photo poses for the next lap on the roller coaster. You certainly do not want to use the same exact pose each time. Talk about stress!
You Use Theme Park Dining Plans in Lieu of Grocery Shopping
You visit the parks a lot and likely live near one. After a long day at work, you want to get in a few rides on your favorite roller coasters. By the time you get out of the park and get home, it’s going to be super late. Who really wants to make a pit stop at the grocery store and then cook dinner when you get home? There’s no need to worry about those overpriced grocery stores anymore; you just added a dining plan to your season pass; problem SOLVED! The only question now is whether or not you tell your friends that you had to stop at the theme park for dinner. There’s yet another great excuse to visit your favorite theme park; just skip that grocery store and acknowledge you are a coaster addict.
If you find yourself doing any of the ten habits above, you are probably addicted to roller coasters. However, don’t get down on yourself; being a coaster addict is not a bad thing! We’re coaster addicts, and we endure!
